Dave Guthrie - Head Coach
(NCCP Level 3 certified)
Dave’s personal coaching philosophy fits closely with the Marlins’ mission statement, "the development of individual skills through quality coaching, teamwork, friendship, and good sportsmanship in a safe, healthy and fun environment". Dave has worked with all levels of swimmers, from the early developmental to national athletes and has broad experience, working with clubs ranging from thirty swimmers to two hundred swimmers. As a former Marlin swimmer (1981-1986) Dave has deep appreciation for the club’s rich history. Dave views the Manitoba Marlin Head Coach position as an opportunity to be past of an ambitious club and lead them to new levels of achievement and team development. Coach Dave feels blessed to have the opportunity to give back to the organization that played such a large part of his life as a young swimmer.
Dave coaches the National (or NAT) group and works closely with all of our coaches to develop an integrated coaching philosophy and teaching strategy. Coach Dave truly believes the Marlins have one of the strongest coaching staffs (top to bottom) in the country.

Amy Brown - Age Group Development Coach
(NCCP Level 1 Skills Coach and NLS certified)
Amy understands, and has personal experience that to most swimmers and their families, swimming is more than ‘just a sport’. It becomes a way of life. Having been a competitive swimmer herself for more than ten years; two of which were with the Marlins, Amy now feels that by coaching she can help to inspire upcoming swimmers in the sport she loves.
During the summer of 2005 and 2006, Amy co-ordinated the Manitoba Marlin Summer Swim Camp, and continued on as a Mini Marlin instructor in the fall of 2006. While juggling a busy school schedule at the University of Manitoba, Amy also coached the novice competitive level for the Winnipeg Wave.
Currently certified in First Aid, Bronze Cross and NLS, Amy has also furthered her knowledge of the sport by achieving her Water Safely Instructor credential, as well as NCCP Level 1 Skill Coach.
This fall will mark her fourth year at the University of Manitoba, where she is currently pursuing an Advanced B.A. with a major in Anthropology.
